Kakumiro People Living with HIV/AIDS Network Organization (KAKUNET) started on 19/03/2015 with 22 members. Later members increased and in 2017 we had 52 members. The members decided to come together and form a network to share challenges being faced by people infected by HIV/AIDS, mobilise and sensitise the communities as a way to promote togetherness and strong working relations among members.
We are a Network of People Living with HIV (KAKUNET), a network for people living with
HIV, run by people living with HIV. We engage with and support our community in Kakumiro District and collaborate with Bunyoro regional networks of
people living with HIV this ensures that our work is grounded in our local experiences
and priorities. The meaningful involvement of people living with HIV is at the
heart of all that we do.
We work with communities that are both geographic and identity based. We
are not a membership organisation; we are a network of interconnected
individuals and organisations that is open to all.
We build broad partnerships with individuals, organisations and
institutions to increase our influence. Using the power of evidence-based
advocacy, we challenge governments and global leaders to improve access to
quality HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services.
Our Vision
A world where every person living with HIV enjoys their right to a
healthy and dignified life, free from stigma and discrimination.
Our Mission
We provide global
leadership and advocate for improvements to the quality of life for all people
living with HIV.
How We Began
PLHIV in Kakumiro face numerous challenges in seeking medical support right from stigma to dietary challenges. This force them to start coalitions in order to support one another which later led to the birth of KAKUNET
